The knowledge of the characteristics of the fluids and their ability to transport substances and physical properties is relevant for us. However, the quantification of the movements of fluids is a complex task, and when considering natural flows, occurring in large scales (rivers, lakes, oceans), this complexity is evidenced. This book presents conclusions about different aspects of flows in natural water bodies, such as the evolution of plumes, the transport of sediments, air-water mixtures, among others. The constant evolution of the calculation capacity of the modern computers implies in a permanent effort to adjust the existing numerical codes, or to create new codes following new points of view, aiming to adequately simulate fluid flows and the related transport of physical properties. Additionally, the continuous improving of laboratory devices and equipment, which allow to record and measure fluid flows with a higher degree of details, induces to elaborate specific experiments, in order to shed light in unsolved aspects of the phenomena related to these flows. This volume presents conclusions about different aspects of calculated and observed flows, discussing the tools used in the analyses. ESTUDO NUMÉRICO SOBRE A INFLUÊNCIA DA DISTÂNCIA ENTRE SINGULARIDADES SUCESSIVAS EM CONDUTOS FORÇADOS

Resumo – As mudanças de geometria em condutos uniformes levam à ocorrência de alterações nos escoamentos turbulentos que podem resultar em perdas de energias localizadas consideráveis. Neste trabalho é discutida a influência da proximidade entre mudanças de geometria no cálculo da perda de carga localizada. Apresenta-se uma metodologia para avaliação do coeficiente de uma singularidade com base na evolução de grandezas médias relevantes nas seções transversais. Foram obtidas soluções numéricas com o uso dos modelos de turbulência k-e e de tensões de Reynolds que possibilitaram demonstrar a redução no coeficiente de perda localizada devido à proximidade entre duas alterações de geometria.
